Prevention Child Abuse America

Picture
At the 1982 National Convention, the convention body unanimously agreed to adopt Prevent Child Abuse America as Sigma Delta Tau's National Philanthropy.Prevent Child Abuse America is a voluntary organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse through citizen action.
Each Sigma Delta Tau chapter conducts an annual service project, educational program, or major fund raiser for the benefit of Prevent Child Abuse America. Together, the SDT chapters contribute more than $50,000 each year to their National Philanthropy.
April is "Child Abuse Prevention" Month. Many Sigma Delta Tau chapters participate in the National Blue Ribbon Campaign. Blue ribbons are distributed on campuses across the country to help spread the awareness of child abuse to undergraduates everywhere.
The Gamma Xi Chapter at MSU has been holding an annual Tricky Tray every April for the past 8 years.   This year we raised an incredible $5,500.00! Being a smaller chapter, we are extremely proud of our accomplishments and hope to raise even more next year!

The National Fragile X Foundation

Along with supporting our National Philanthropy, Gamma Xi has been consistently donating to The National Fragile X Foundation.   Fragile X is the most common inherited cause of intellectual impairment and the most common known genetic cause of autism.   Every year we are proud to raise money for this foundation.   This year we donated $500.00!

Although extremely attached to both foundations, the Gamma Xi Chapter doesn't limit ourselves to them.   We participate in American Cancer Society's Relay for Life every summer.   We also take part in the Jewish Women International Mother's Day project.   This year, sisters also participated in a local fundraiser for the AIDS walk along with actually attending the AIDS walk on May 18th in NYC.   We recently were involved with a Greek "Sleep Out for the Homeless" on October 13th and raised over $3,000.00 for the Salvation Army.   We also have an Alex's Lemonade Stand coming up on October 28th along with other co-sponsored events.
